Dovecote is a poignant film that evokes the audience to grapple with the realities of the hardship of prison experiences but also the bonds that are built because of new relationships that are formed among unknown prisoners that are forced to reconcile their former realities for the purpose of getting through the long days and dark nights at a secluded women’s prison in Venice located at the brim of the sea.

In the film not only is the emotional attachment of the women beautifully captured to display the vulnerabilities that this class of people are subjected to from day to day: from showering together, to sleeping together, to breathing together, but the devastation of their situation is captured as well.

The curiosity of every scene is honed by Zoe Saldaña who wonderfully portrays their thoughts, wants and needs. Dovecote is wholesomely brilliant, peculiar, sad and touching. The plethora of themes within this film can’t be defined to just one understanding as Dovecote goes beyond normal to transcend the meaning of freedom in every way.

The film was exhibited at the 60th Venice Biennale this year as part of the Vatican Pavilion and has qualified to be considered for the 2025 Oscars®️.

Director Marco Perego work has been shown internationally at the Michele Maccarone Gallery in New York and Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna, the National Archaeology Museum in Florence, the Rennie Museum in Vancouver, The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, and Until then in Paris. He recently completed writing and directing his first feature film, THE ABSENCE OF EDEN, executive produced by Martin Scorsese.

Lead actress and producer Zoe Saldaña is widely known for playing “Gamora” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Neytiri” in James Cameron’s AVATAR series and “Nyota Uhura” in J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK films. Saldaña currently leads Taylor Sheridan’s undercover CIA drama series for Paramount+ “Lioness,” where she also serves as an executive producer under her production company Cinestar Pictures.

Co-writer and producer Alexander Dinelaris Jr. is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter.
