The D.O.C is an icon. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas. With an extensive career. His roots in gangster rap began with N.W.A. A founding member of Death Row Records that co-wrote many records including Eazy-E’s, Eazy-Duz-It.
As one of the founders of the culture. He has documented it all with his documentary, “DOC”.
A directorial debut from Dave Caplan that chronicles his life growing up in Dallas to his beginnings in hip-hop/gangster rap in Compton, California, to his love affair with Erykah Badu.

Please see the Interview with DOC below:
Yolanda Gibson: What was your perspective of life growing up in Compton and how did that perspective fuel your passion for gangster rap/ music?
D.O.C: “I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I got to Compton at the age of 18. Compton was not like Dallas. Compton was a war zone. It was a different world in Compton then in Dallas…I didn’t need anything to fuel me… I wanted to make as much art as I could.”
Y.G: Why do you feel like your documentary is ready to be released now?
D.O.C: “It’s a GOD thing and not a DOC thing.”
Y.G : I hope I’m not offensive when I say that accidents come to teach us lessons, and if we can live through them on the other side there is something greater. What was the “greater” on the other side of the accident.
D.O.C: “Understanding life is a gift, It you concentrate on one gift you have everything.”
You can buy tickets for the documentary on June 11, 2022 at Cinepolis at 8:30. Check out more info about the D.O.C documentary here.
