New York Premiere of Showtime’s Documentary Film ATTICA

Film maker Stanley Nelson and Traci Curry were present at the New York Premiere of the documentary Attica, along with the Attica survivors and Joy-Ann Reid who moderated the event.

Film maker Stanley Nelson has directed films such as the 2010 historical documentary Freedom Riders. Freedom Riders recieved rave reviews for its historical significance and education.

The film Attica documents the series of events that led to a five day uprising of prison inmates in Attica, NY.

1200 inmates held 42 correction officers hostage. At the end of the uprising there were 39 inmates and correction officers dead, but not by the hands of the inmates.

Thus, Attica chronicles the events of the inmates that staged the uprising so that their voices could be heard. But, not just heard by the media, but by the people in power that could truly make a difference.
