I’ve followed the story of the unfortunate slaying of Nipsey Hussle since his death on March 31, 2019. What I have gathered about this man, is that he had plans to and he did change the world. Nipsey Hussle was more than a lyricist he was an activist and just a great human being overall. In my time of studying the stories of the greats in Hip Hop, I’ve learned how great they truly were through their death. It appears that through their death people go through moments of reflections to explore within themselves how this persons being, and words changed their lives. I know this from my experiences of when TU-PAC died, and watching the streets of Brooklyn when Biggie died, and now that Nipsey Hussle has departed this life, I see and feel the people’s energy that were able to witness his greatness.

Upon my finding out about his death, I thought about the name of his clothing store, “Marathon” and I thought about the title of his record “Victory Lap”, and I just continued to say to myself what does “Victory Lap” truly mean: A “Victory Lap” is “An extra lap of the race track taken after the conclusion of a winning race.” After I was able to refer to the definition, in my own interpretation of Nipsey Hussle’s life was that he knew that in this world we have to continue to run this race called life, and in this life I feel that he was sent to let us know that you can change the community that you live in by not only with what you say but truly by what you do.

When you have been called by the universe to complete a task you keep running until the race is completed and once you complete the race you run one more lap to let your enemy know that you won, and that every scheme or tactic never received a chance, because you kept running no matter how many times you were hit, which is what happened. Nipsey kept running.

You see, Nipsey’s assailant didn’t do anything but extract his physical body from this earth, but as we can see his soul will live forever. Nipsey truly brought the “Hood” together. His mother said that “he was more beautiful in death, than in life, she even said that his lifeless body smelled beautiful”. Lauren’s son said that he had a dream that Nipsey was in Paradise”. What Nipsey’s Hussle’s assailant meant for bad, never manifested only greatness since Nipsey left this world.

  • Victory Lap climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts.
  • The intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue will be named Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom Square.

The Bible’s says in Corinthians 9:24–27,

“24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

Nipsey won, he completed the race, and that last lap was for all his enemies to let them know that “ GOD’S MARATHON CONTINUES”, shout out to Lauren London.

RIP NIPSEY HUSSLE
