NYFW Presents Jewelry Designs by Patrizia lacino
Patrizia lacino is an Italian designer living in New York City. She uses discarded materials to create magnificent jewelry that she combines with precious metals and gems. The discarded material that is used ranges from rubber bands to contact lenses cases to milk gallons. This concept of reusing materials to creat something new is called sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion is a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice.
I had the chance to speak with Patrizia and this is what she had to say about her inspiration to create sustainable fashion:
Yolanda Gibson: what influenced you to create sustainable fashion?
Patrizia lacino: In 2006 I started my first line. In the city people threw away so much. Plastic pollution was painful to me. It ended up in the landfill and in the ocean. I started to collect fashion things from packaging, water bottles and small pieces of plastic. Then one day it hit me. I have always loved contrast and contradictions.
