Surviving R Kelly: The Reckoning
I had the opportunity to view part two of the Surviving R Kelly story, “The Reckoning”. These new episodes shinned light on R Kelly’s hair braider, Lanita Carter. She gave her account of the sexual abuse that R Kelly did to her. Her account was the worst account of them all, because she had a high level of trust for him, despite the allegations that she heard. She defended him. They had history.
The new episodes that will air, will also go in depth of the abuse and the mistreatment that R Kelly endured as a child. Unfortunately, R Kelly was abused multiple times by male and female adults.
This documentary allows an accuser to tell her story of how R. Kelly would frequent high schools in Chicago as a grown man. Unfortunately, this phenomenon, was not new because many older men have been known to be in places where younger teenage girls are, in particularly high schools. Many are not understanding why the police weren’t called when they would see him at the school, or any grown man that doesn’t have legitimate business at these locations. Why was R. Kelly able to linger around?
This documentary also discusses the demons that he holds within, its quite interesting that many of his victims including his wife state “R Kelly is nice, but Robert is the devil.”
Based on the commentary of the abused women it appeared that he was a real life, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde”. He had two personalities, two personas.
It’s really unfortunate that these women had to endure this, but finally it appears they are receiving some level of justice.
You can watch the three part documentary, January 2, 2020 on LifeTime.
