TriBeca Film Festival: DOC Documentary Review
It was a pleasure conducting an interview with the rapper D.O.C. It has been one of my goals to interview all the entertainers that contributed music to my childhood experience. As every time I hear certain songs and lyrics I have overwhelming nostalgia of that time in my life. A time of being youthful; playful; plastering posters of my favorite rappers all over the walls of my room; and vibing to music that spoke to me. How I came to listen to west coast rappers, it was innocent, my older siblings did, and as I learn more and more about that era of the raise of west coast rappers such as the group NWA, I have become more and more intrigued about their story as an adult.
As a child you only know part of the story. You essentially only know what you see, and even if you saw the inner workings of a situation, you wouldn’t understand them…you would not be mentally prepared to receive and interpret the information. Which is why “The DOC” documentary is so relevant in today’s landscape. His audience and fans are ready. They still are influenced by the music, but they are also heavily influenced by their own families, careers and life. They have matriculated through at least 3 decades of maturing and life…
